I just came across these - I know every state has odd stuff like this, but some of these really make me wonder what problem they were trying to solve...

1) In Harper Woods (MI), it is illegal to paint sparrows to sell them as parakeets.
2) In Michigan, married couples must live together or be imprisoned.
3) In Michigan, it is against the law for a lady to lift her skirt more than 6 inches while walking through a mud puddle.
4) In Michigan, it is illegal to chain an alligator to a fire hydrant.

More oddness )

Ok, so this is Michigan - the photo's aren't great, but they should give you an idea...

So here I am - in Michigan!

It's amazing, I lived here for eight years - and havent been back for ten - and somehow, the house is so much smaller and shorter (I swear the shelves in my room went up to the ceiling - now I'm taller than them!) and yet otherwise, due to the fact that my dad has been basically living at work for the last ten years, the house is EXACTLY the same - total time warp.

AND there is SNOW - PILES of it - though my dad keeps mentioning that the snow is nearly gone. This much snow in the south of England would bring everything to a standstill.

Tomorrow, or the next day, I'm gonna get a digital camera and post up some pictures.

But otherwise, somehow, my body seems to have decided not to go into the whole jet lag thing so far (fingers crossed).

I'm currently in London all on my own, in an Internet Cafe just off Oxford Street, sipping strawberry Ribena.

Dont I feel all grown up :)

I wanted to come up and sort out some stuff, to do with the Great Move To The USA project, and I finished it all really fast - so I don't really have anything else to do up here, but I felt like it would be such a waste to just go home. Hence, the internet cafe.

unfortunately, I don't have an unlimited amount of money to do stuff with. Hence, the Strawberry Ribena.

At the moment I've got the house to myself, as my brother and sister-in-law are in Florida, so apart from when

[info]sparklylights takes pity on me and carries me off to her house, I seem to spend a lot of time talking to the cats. So I figure hanging around London is probably the healthy thing to do...

So I'm back (for good) after a three and a half year sabbatical.

Its very strange to look at all my interests from then - I feel so old now - comparatively speaking.

Anyways, looking for a room and work in London, and trying desperately not to get distracted by all the TV and internet around me (its been a very interesting three and a half years, but it didn't involve all that much in the ways of this modern technology stuff).

I'm supposed to be writing my CV right now, so I guess I'll go and be all adult and mature like.

Hey!

so yeah, Its been a while.

I've got a day off, so I thought I'd write and say h'yall. and spend the 100 pound voucher for Amazon (woohoo!) my dad just sent me for my birthday (Monday the 18th. It was wonderful).

so hi.

I DID graduate (got my 2.2 that I worked as much as I had to for) wore the robe and all that- my brother has pictures, I'll try and get him to put them up again one day.

I see younger livejournal ones working away at their exams (oh the memories) good luck all.

I'm working all the days of the week. exiting. and REALLY hard to explain what I do. so Im not gonna try just yet. soon though, soon.

am also working on having the slackest day off ever. If my mobile rings, and it's anyone from work I AM NOT HERE. Slacking. on this beautiful sunny day.

*sighs in bliss*

speak to you soon :)

Just a flying visit to say Im still about!

All is good- working lots and lots- and really hard. Also no internet except for the rare occasion. which does suck much.

But i will be around very occasionally. And my graduation is in a couple weeks!

Happy Birthday [info]dorkgirl!!

Soooo- while i realise most of you wont know exactly what i mean, some of you will. And those people will be spoken to at length in the nearesst possible future.

Ill talk more about this later, but, essentially, Ive committed myself to a two and a half year contract at a certain place of employment. hey, at least its not a billion : )

im kind of excited. and kind of... freaked out. but we'll see.

First things first- from [info]wg

Ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that could be obvious, but you have no idea about. Then post this in your own lj and find out what people don't know about you.

Otherwise, Ive spent most of the day doing the job application thing- my CV is now complete, though way too empty on the experience side, so I have to skate the fine line between sounding all cocky or sounding desperate.

I think i may have erred on the side of desperate in my profile, but we'll see. Ive tracked down the addresses and stuff of five companies, and sent off my CV, so maybe. Im also finding the number of film production companies that have gone out of busines in the last two years rather alarming- though no one ever said film was a stable industry.

anyways *crosses fingers*

Tonights just jam-packed full of goodness )

And I am RIGHT NOW both on the internet AND in my room.

This has been a futile dream for just ever- and it has finally happened.

I feel so happy I could just burst. The only reason I havent is cuz of the mess (that Id probably have to clean up) and cuz of the TOTALLY INFURIATING PEICE OF SOMETHING OR OTHER THAT CALLS ITSELF MY COMPUTER.

It has not worked for weeks. At ALL. except for the minor blip of workingness when I spoke to my dad and asked him for help. But Assaff turned it on tonight and it just worked. Just like that.

But I just know the sneaky little bugger will wait till I have no brother, father, or Seb nearby and will then go ploonf.

In the badness problem stakes, however- I think [info]katieliz_x wins. Except for the fact that she goes to Glastonbury on Tuesday. Which is sounding cooler by the minute from what I hear.

I'm home now- I finished my degree.

HALLELUJAH

So now I am officially one of those unemployed people. With a really big vocabulary, and the ability to write essays and discuss the imagery of women in M. Night Shyamalan's films.

I've got a couple small (but fortunately paying) jobs for the next few weeks, and in my free time I'm working on my editing skills.

Which at the moment consists of getting a computer capable of editing. Or even working at all, for that matter. My current much used and often crashed computer decided that it didn't have a hard drive.

It has issues. We're working them out.

I'm also pleased 'cuz I'm home, so I can see all the cool people. And frolic in their pool. And sulk because one of them had a LAN party that I couldn't go to.

So all in all, gonna be a good week :)

Im on my way to a really good sunburn. Its great, I get to sit outside and revise for a really terrifying exam, while causing long term damage to my skin.

but I like the sun. And the exam is tomorrow, and then all ill have left will be a thirty minute thing for the documantary, and then Itll all be gone.

which is making me hyper and freaked out and happy all at the same time.

I barely have time to do anything other than work, hence the uncharacteristic lack of entries. But the exam tomorrow is 75 percent of the module, and the thing on friday 100 percent, so Im being a dedicated student.

And it makes me happy to be a dedicated student who can sit outside in her big garden in the sun :)

I just had my Regulation of Film Violence in Britain exam- which means another WHOLE module is over. completely.

All I've got left is the video, and its presentation panel thing (a huge chunk of my overall grade), and my Fantasy Desire and Sexuality exam. Which I dread much.

Anyways, for the last three hours I talked about Scum, Battle Royale, Home Alone, Scream, and Spy Kids. (I did one question dealing with violence and the effects on children).

And now, Im gonna finish off my video. And then Im gonna go home and sit in the stunning garden for a couple hours. I don't care if its raining, Ive been wanting to sit in the garden all week, now im gonna.

So all is good :)

I just got my Scum marks back- I did alright- 52%. Not the best, but still one of the higher marks in my class. The three highest scorers are all friends of mine, however, so I kinda felt... inadequate.

but that's ok, cuz Ive got a three hour exam on tuesday, my Video in on wednesday, and then it'll all be over by the eleventh.

That's 19 years of education, over.

I CAN NOT wait. REALLY.

I'm still waiting for my Star Trek presentation marks- we were told they'd be in today, but still not there- those are the last marks I'll get before the end of term-the rest I'll have to wait till august to find out.

Am revising for my violence exam- just had my final lecture EVER I really can't get my head around this 'nearly done' thing, which was really good- I had Shaun Kimber and Paul Carter, who along with Laura Hubner make up the best teachers in the department.

So all is good :)

Was at work AAAAAALLLL weekend. was actually really fun- so fun that I am now not as cheery about the fact that I have less than a month to go.

I also managed to get a lovely complement off the scary manager lady AND her big boss (like the third most important man in the whole of the Slug and Lettuce chain. and thats a looong chain). He turned up without ANY warning whatsoever (was apparently in the area for a funeral and decides to stop by, and sit in MY section.)

The manager lady said he commented on how I was very friendly and personable.

*double checks the meaning of personable*

Yup- he liked me :)

Also, isn't tarradiddle the best word ever? Makes me giggle and is descriptive all at the same time.

AND, isn't Keane just the best? I've been listening to them all weekend- they make me really happy.

lovely, chilled out, and beatful all at the same time :)

[edit] glabrous makes me giggle too. AND what a useful word.

Just finished my Scum presentation thank you [info]knirrir It went really well- and its OVER. FOREVER!!!!

yay.

I'm soooo nearly done with this degree- exam on the 1st and the 9th of june, video in next week, and barring complications, the WHOLE silly thing seems like a walk in the park. If it were a rather long and occasionally tricky walk in the park

I have a hair appointment booked this afternoon at Tony and Guy (student discount- the best thing ever) so Im gonna have short hair!ish.

and then workblah all weekend- oh, yeah, the staff meeting last week was all the usual stuff- watch the stock and smilesmilesmile.

so gonna be packed and fun and all that stuff :)

I accidentally watched Battle Royale.

It was really strange- I didn't want to see it- all those kids killing each other- isn't the film an example of a debased film?

But I kept channel surfing, and gradually I ended up staying on Battle Royale- and it was really good. the message was really powerful and the imagery wasn't too horrific. except for the guy with the popped eyes. And the girl and the axe thing.

The ending was all freaky (What was up with that painting?) but I actually loved it.

I found Eurovision scarier. For many reasons.
